Homemade Strawberry Banana Ice cream (Nicecream): Raw, Vegan, All Fruit!

Hi guys! Sorry for the lack of posts, it’s that standardized test time of the year again and I’ve been so tired coming home to do anything. But last week I was finally able to make my first ever banana ice cream, and it was so so so so good! I was inspired by all those vegan instagram accounts out there, I mean WOW. Talk about inspiring photographs of raw food! So in the theme of all this, I dedicate the trending hasthag #nourishyourself and I challenge all of you guys to think about what that means to you while I show you how to make this utterly delicious treat.

Anyways, banana ice cream or commonly referred to as “nicecream” and “guilt-free ice cream” is a 100% raw, vegan, and healthy alternative to ice cream. It’s so simple and fun to make I think everyone should do it. 😀 I’ll be showing you guys two flavors, plain banana and strawberry, but what I did was layer them all together in a mason jar. You can really get creative with this and add in your own preferred fruits and make your favorite colors. Ready?

You’ll Need:

  • 9-12 bananas ,frozen
  • 2-4 cups of strawberries, frozen
  • a dash of soy milk or almond milk ( optional, this is just if your ingredients have a hard time blending)
  • A blender or food processor. ( I recommend a Vitamix or any powerful blender.)
Procedure:
I’m going to start on the plain banana layer first. I froze all my bananas two nights before, but however long it takes your fruit to freeze is fine. After removing them from the freezer,cut them into chunks and place them in the blender. Remember, if you’re planning on doing a layer of another flavor,set aside bananas for that as well. So of my 9 bananas, I used 6. Remember, for this to work you MUST use a lot of bananas. The frozen banana is what gives it the ice cream texture. Without it, you basically have a smoothie.

Because I have a old and crappy blender, I had to add a dash of soy milk for it to blend properly. If your blender is like mine and isn’t that powerful, it will take some time, patience, and a lot of poking with a spoon. But in the end, you want to reach this creamy consistency.

If that’s the only flavor you want, congratulations, you’re done! Place it in the freezer if you want a harder consistency, but you can eat it directly like that for a creamier one. But I’m going to start on my second layer that will have strawberries, so if you’re going to be working with other flavors, spoon your banana ice cream out and place it in the freezer to avoid melting.
Here are my frozen strawberries.

I’m just going to plop them into the blender along with my remaining banana chunks.

 

And blend away! You should reach this consistency.
Being the first time that I made this, I was amazed at how frozen banana was capable of turning into-well, ice cream! I was blown away by the color as well. The soft pink and the light yellow go so well together, I wouldn’t mind just making it to take pictures of. ^^
So after blending all the flavors, spoon them into a container. I just put them in bowls to get ready to layer them in my mason jar. It’s up to you if you want it in a glass, a bowl, or whatever container, but I see them put in mason jars on instagram and I love how they look!

 

Now I’m going to layer them in my mason jar. I put the banana in first and then stacked on the strawberry.

 

And there you have it! A perfect combination of sweet, creamy, tangy, all in a little jar that you can pop in the freezer and eat whenever you want or just finish it all off! The best thing about this is that it’s made completely out of fruit, so it’s 100% “guilt free,” natural, and healthy. I’d love to experiment with other fruits as well! I’ve seen blackberry, raspberry, and mango, and they all look so good. If you guys try, I’d love to see your creations!

So the hashtag #nourishyourself. To me, it means eating the food that makes me feel good. The ones that give me the energy to go through the day and make the most out of every little thing. It means putting the right food in my body and in words, nourishing it to be the best it can be.
